On July 9, 2018, Kate debuted these pearl cluster earrings at Prince Louis’s christening ceremony.
From the website: “Cavolfiore studs in 18ct yellow gold set with seven pearls set with diamonds. Inspired by the clusters of young flower stalks of the cauliflower (cavolfiore) in the market. From the Journey to Sicily.
Each earring measures approximately 20mm.”
The earrings feature small round white pearls arrange in a “burst” pattern: one pearl in the center surrounded by six additional pearls to form a flower-like design. The earrings are set in yellow gold.
On October 14, 2016, Kate debuted these new button earrings.
From the website: “Gilded details nod to natural oysters and Art Deco discs in these show-stopping button earrings, accented with lustrous Swarovski crystal pearls in statement, sea-inspired design. Handcrafted in America from weightless gold-plated pewter, this simple silhouette incorporates just the right amount of elegance into any look.”
• 5/8” long x 5/8” wide
• Clip backs with comfort pads
• Pewter / crystal pearl / brass
• Nickel-free / lead-free / cadmium-free
I admit I didn’t quite catch the reference to pearls in oyster shells until I read the description. It’s a clever design consisting of a round pearl centered in a hammered metal setting.
The earring attaches to the lobe by a post. The base of the main component is slightly curved at the rim, echoing the natural curvature of an oyster shell.
While at Francesca’s, I also spotted a very good substitute for Kate’s well-used Grace studs.
Here are the Kiki McDonough Grace studs.
And here are the Francesca’s repliKates.
They are made of sterling silver and cubic zirconia.
The differences are:
-The Grace studs look larger than these.
-The materials are sterling silver and CZ, not white gold, diamonds and white topaz
-The center stone is less faceted on the Grace studs. The halo of diamonds on the Grace studs is thinner than the ones on my repliKates.
These stud earrings are a reliable set for Kate. She has worn them many, many times.
From the website: “One of Kiki’s most popular styles, these simple and delicate earrings can be worn everyday. Each earring features a round white topaz gemstone surrounded by small diamonds set in 18ct gold and can be paired with our matching Grace pendants and rings.”
The center stone appears to be a diamond at first, but at second glance they don’t have the sparkle of diamonds. Tiny diamonds surround the white topaz, and it’s all set in gold. I would have guessed white gold, but the website doesn’t specify and it’s not possible to see the color of the setting while Kate is wearing them. These are made of 18ct white gold.
Kate has worn these too many times to count, but here are some notable occasions.
Arriving in New Zealand with Prince George in tow in 2014 .
Attending the Order of the Garter service at Windsor Castle in 2011.
Visiting the city of Cambridge in 2011 with Prince William (side note: I love Kate’s hairstyle in this photo).
And of course, she’s wearing them in this blog’s avatar and main photo. This was taken on Canada Day in 2011.
